OpenGATE Launches ‘Saamarthya – India’s Circular Renaissance’ White Paper to Advance India’s Manufacturing Independence

New Delhi, 14th August 2025 : OpenGATE, a circular economy startup, today announced the launch of its white paper titled “Saamarthya – India’s Circular Renaissance”. This white paper introduces the Freedom Framework - a comprehensive policy and implementation blueprint designed to free India’s manufacturing sector from resource vulnerabilities caused through geopolitical dependencies, while driving the nation towards Atma Nirbhar Bharat.

Manufacturing in India is slowly and steadily being influenced and affected by geopolitical concerns. On one hand, China is putting an embargo on the exports of rare earths and critical raw materials required in electronics and vehicle manufacturing, and on the other, large consumers like the United States are raising tariffs which make manufacturing for exports untenable and economically unviable.

Manufacturing requires materials, and the country needs “freedom” from the dependence through imports. The Freedom Framework lays down that path towards independence for the manufacturing sector in India from such concerns so that it can chart a way for itself and power the country towards a glorious future and achieve Atma Nirbhar Bharat.

India’s scale of consumption makes it one of the largest plastic waste generators and the third-largest e-waste producer globally. Existing waste management rules, while robust, lack an integrated framework that unites multiple stakeholders under sustainable, systems-based solutions.

Developed through a Systems Lens, the Freedom Framework envisions India being:

§  free from social ostracization of the informal sector which manages waste,

§  free from the reliance of materials through imports to ensure that the manufacturing sector becomes competitive,

§  free from large-scale unemployment which can be addressed through growth of manufacturing in the country,

§  free from environmental pollution, which is caused due to mishandling of waste, and

§  free from resource inefficiencies which cause economic losses and harm health and environment alike.

The document presents an action plan which, when adopted and implemented, will ensure that scalable and replicable solutions on the ground set our economy free from such dependencies.

By 2035, the Freedom Framework aims to establish 1,000 CFCs nationwide, create 2.5 million direct and indirect jobs, recover 9 million tonnes of secondary raw materials annually, and position India as a global leader in resource efficiency and sustainable manufacturing.

“The Freedom Framework White Paper is more than just a policy document — it is a strategic blueprint for India’s manufacturing and environmental sovereignty,” said Anwar Shirpurwala, Chairman of Opengate. “It bridges the gap between policy vision and on-ground implementation, ensuring that India is not only self-reliant but also globally competitive and sustainable.”

India is at the cusp where such solutions are the need of the hour. The clarion call by the Hon’ble Prime Minister for achieving Amrit Kaal by 2047 sets the goal. The mission and vision articulated in the Freedom Framework will propel the Indian economy towards achievement of the mission and realization of the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister and help India achieve the tag of one of the largest economies in the world.

The impact created will ensure social, economic and environmental growth, making the nation sustainable and future-ready to cope with geopolitical shocks and protectionist policies adopted by countries around the world.
