In an age where students and young
professionals are increasingly overwhelmed by choices, competition, and
uncertainty, Beyond Career stands
out as a powerful, student-driven movement that is changing how India
approaches careers. The project was
started by Mahavir Kumar and
Nitish Kumar,
two visionary students from IIT
Kharagpur, who recognised a common problem across campuses — the lack of
structured, relatable, and personalised career guidance for students navigating
life beyond academics.
What began as a simple campus initiative
has grown into a vibrant, fast-growing platform led by a passionate team of 20+ student volunteers from across the
country. Today, Beyond Career is not
just a mentorship project — it’s a growing career
readiness ecosystem that has already empowered
over 500 students through expert mentorship, real-world learning
opportunities, and practical resources.
“We started Beyond Career with a simple
belief — that every student deserves clarity and confidence when it comes to
choosing and building their career,” shared Mahavir Kumar, student at IIT
Kharagpur.
At
its core, Beyond Career is designed
to help students move from confusion to clarity. The platform offers one-on-one career mentorship, skill assessments, and tailored career roadmaps, helping
students make informed, confident decisions. Whether it's a student preparing
for internships, deciding between higher studies and placements, or exploring
unconventional paths like entrepreneurship or public policy, Beyond Career’s
framework is designed to guide them step-by-step.
The initiative has built a robust career resource hub, complete with professional resume templates, mock interview guides, industry-specific toolkits, and insider advice from experienced alumni
and professionals. These resources cater specifically to students from premier
institutions like IITs, NITs, and other top universities —
those who have the potential but often lack the right direction.
One of the most unique aspects of Beyond
Career is its peer-to-peer learning
community — a vibrant space where students, recent graduates, and industry
mentors connect, collaborate, and grow together. The platform doesn’t just
preach guidance; it facilitates real-world
exposure by offering internships,
live projects, and hands-on learning opportunities that
align with students' career interests.
“We’re
helping students move beyond confusion, beyond self-doubt — and step into their
careers with clarity and confidence,” added Nitish Kumar, also from IIT
Kharagpur.
In a landscape where
traditional career counselling is often impersonal or outdated, Beyond Career
stands apart with its student-first
philosophy, practical approach, and genuine community-building. The
initiative is a shining example of how student-led
innovation can solve real problems — not just for individuals, but for
entire communities.
